Kathy Johnson's Quilts

Kathy Johnson of Alexander, North Dakota, has made two quilts using the Celtic Knot Font to create the Celtic Knots shown here. Her method is to print out the designs in a large size. These patterns are traced onto fabric, then she irons a fusible on the back of the fabric, cutting it into the design shape and pressing it on a background. She then makes bias tape, which is appliqued over all the edges, carefully watching for the overs and unders.

This is Kathy's latest Celtic project, she's just started quilting this top.

Perfect Union was made for Kathy's son's wedding in 2003. Kathy combined two traditional patterns, the lone star and the double wedding ring, adding Celtic knots to create a unique quilt. The strips of knotwork were placed along the top of the quilt for a pillow tuck.
