Patterns, Too

Since I've been very productive in designing patterns, I thought it would be a good idea if I moved some of them to another page so it doesn't take forever for the pages to load.

Now on to the next pattern:

[Scarlett's Double Wedding Ring]

Scarlett's Double Wedding Ring

#212 - $9.00

54" (137cm) square

This is entirely paper pieced, with straight lines! No curves to cause problems!!  It's sewn as a 12" block, with a 9" border.  The included quilting design is a feathered cross.  The pattern includes 4" and 6" blocks for those who would like to make this in miniature.

Here's a sample done in red and green scraps, with machine embroidered butterflies scattered across the whole quilt.

[Scarlett's Double Wedding Ring with butterflies]

This sample was machine quilted by Donna Jones. I bound the edges so they are scalloped, a variation for Scarlett's Double Wedding Ring design.  The green fabric showing along the top edge is the sleeve for hanging the quilt.

[close-up of Scarlett's Double Wedding Ring with butterflies]

There's a spiderweb quilted in each large background space and stipple quilting in the smaller space. This is a close-up that shows the embroidery in detail.  Where did that praying mantis come from?

[Sixty Years of Remembrances]

Sixty Years of Remembrances

#211 - $9.00

101"(256cm) square

I inherited some blocks from my grandmother, Irene Rose and kept them for many years until I could decide what to do with them.  Now that reproduction fabrics are available, I created this quilt to use those special blocks.  I set the old blocks with new, alternating them so that I could balance out the old blocks.  Some had not been made very well and had really different fabric choices, so I wanted to make them look the best they could by mixing them with another block design.  I collected signatures from family and friends for the new blocks, so that's what gave me the idea for the name of this quilt.  Betty McFadyen hand quilted this quilt for me in trade from one of my quilt tops.

I've also used this pattern to make a Millenium Quilt, the first of several different quilts that I want to do for the new century.

[Year 2000 Remembrances quilt]

I machine embroidered the Effiel Tower, the Statue of Liberty, Big Ben of London and the Leaning Tower of Pisa in the Vice President's blocks instead of collecting signatures.  The border fabric is the Hollywood skyline, a printed fabric that also has other skylines:  New York, Seattle, San Francisco, etc., on it.

[Retreat Three Medallion Quilt]

Retreat Three Medallion

#210 - $9.00
88" (224cm) square

The name of this quilt comes from a quilter's retreat that I went to some years ago.  We all made blocks to exchange.  The pattern we did was Spools and Shuttles.  This design was my way of setting those blocks together, along with others I made, so the finished quilt would be double bed size.  Even though the same red solid was used in mine, it would look great if different reds were used.  That would make the quilt completely scrappy, except the border!

There's a variation on another page, Laurie Short's quilt.  Click here if you wish to return to my index page.

[Presents Quilt]

Presents

#209 - $9.00
48" square

This was a design I drew up some years ago and submitted to a contest.  It wasn't accepted, so it went back into my binder until I could decide what I wanted to do with it.

[An Ocean of Fishes quilt]

An Ocean of Fishes

#208 $9.00
48" (122cm) square

I was playing with some traditional block designs, and saw that one turned on point could be a fish.  Then I thought that mixing different sizes would be great, as well as using more than one fabric for the background.  This is my first quilt to be totally designed on my computer!

[Four Bows Wallhanging]

Four Bows

#207 - $9.00
28" square

Four Bows is a another bow variation that I designed some years ago and finally decided to sew into a sample.

[Celtic Circuits wallhanging]

Celtic Circuits

#206 - $9.00
40" x 40"

This was an idea I had for doing more geometric type Celtic designs. I was also trying to come up with more border designs that could be used on any quilt.  I started out with a multicolored  print, then pulled all the solid colors from that.  It's a different approach to what I've been doing with my Celtic Applique. This sample is hand quilted with six colors of metallic thread! Also available as an e-pattern.

[Voila Viola!]
Voila Viola!

#205 - $9.00
60" (152cm) square

This is a friendship quilt that started with blocks made at a quilter's retreat.  Everyone was to make blocks of the traditional pattern called "Album".  Obviously, the choice of where colors were to be placed was left up to the individual.  We were following a color scheme, but the interpretation of the specified colors was also left up to each of us.  This was one of the first challenges that I had to meet in order to make a quilt out of these blocks.  I think it turned out very well.  If you want to see a picture of all those who made blocks for this quilt, go to my friends page. Newly updated on 7-17-08 and now also available as an e-pattern.

  [Garden of Friends]

Garden of Friends

#204 - $9.00
84" x 96"

This is a friendship quilt.  I was able to exchange signature blocks with a group of quilters from England who were passing through my area.  A lot of the local quilters were invited to a party with this tour group and told about the block exchange.  The more blocks you made, the more you could exchange.  I traded with everyone, including all the quilters from my area who had attended.  It was a lot of blocks to make, but they are easy and use up lots of scraps. I also used some Grandmother's Flower Garden flowers that I had made years ago to set with the signature blocks.  The setting is a design called Jack's Chain.

Weeds and Wild Geese I & II

#203 - $9.00
24" x40" for I & 24" x 48" for II

This started out as a contest entry for a local quilt shop that has since closed. It was a challenge contest with some of the fabric required.  I could add fabric to that, but had to keep the size of the finished wallhanging within certain limits.  I made the quilt on the right for this contest. It came in last in the open voting that ran for a month. One of the store owners very nicely mentioned this to me when I came in to find out who had won.  The comments she had heard were along the line of  "But, it's not square!"or "Why is it such an odd shape?"   The end of the story is that a couple months later, after finishing the second quilt, I sent them to a national competition. They won first place in Series Wallhanging at the National Quilting Association's Annual Show!  Later, they took second place at the Kentucky Fall Festival of Quilts.  So much for local opinion!!

[Celtic Medallion IV]

Celtic Medallion IV

#202 - $9.00
40" (102cm) square

This Celtic applique wallhanging design is from my first book.  It's been very popular, so I decided to make it available as a printed pattern and as an e-pattern.

[Amish Star quilt]

Amish Star

#201 - $9.00
96" ( 244cm) Square

I like Amish quilts, so I designed my own!  This quilt is hand quilted with black thread.  I used a regular batting (didn't know any better back then!) and wondered why I couldn't make very small stitches.
