Intermediate Celtic Design
Oriental Interlace
52" square
Here's the sample quilt for Intermediate Celtic Design. Students will learn how to use Magic Key #2 to draw this design or create their own! This class also gives detailed instructions for choosing fabrics, how to make your own fusible bias tape with some special tips, how to miter bias tape in several different ways and invisible machine applique.
Here's a closeup of the Celtic design in the center octagon of Oriental Interlace, the sample quilt from Intermediate Celtic Design.
Rochelle Summers of Nevada made her own version of Oriental Interlace, which she's called "Snowflake". Rochelle used Magic Key #2 to draw this design, changing the size of the Key as well as the placement of it in the design. The large print is an Alexander Henry fabric.
Here's a closeup of Rochelle's Snowflake quilt, showing the border with the large scale asian floral print. She plans to bead the whole quilt more, like this section shows with the delicate dandelion-like design. The flowers have detailed machine quilting in them.
Deann Spickard from Colorado used a Japanese wisteria print as her focus for this October 2008 class. She added beads and other embellishments to her finished quilt
In this closeup, you can see that the flowers are made from the large scale print and are little yo yo flowers, with several kinds of beads added.
Basic Celtic for Hand Applique
Infinity
36" square
The first of the Magic Key series of Celtic designs, this is the class sample for Scarlett's Basic Celtic for Hand Applique class at Quilt Campus. The bias tape was made using bias bars.
Here's Deann Spickard's finished quilt from the October 2007 online class. She added a lot of beading to her class project!
Here's a closeup to show more detail of the beading. Deann lives in Colorado.
Here's Carol Amyotte's quilt from the October 2007 online class. She added machine appliqued patches inside the loops of bias tape.
Here's a closeup of the center of Carol's quilt
Here's another sample quilt Scarlett made using the Infinity pattern. This one has a contrast border, made by switching the two fabrics required, so each fabric is used for both bias and background.
